NEW YORK — Wolford is thinking pink these days.

The Bregenz, Austria-based hosiery and innerwear company has teamed up with Evelyn Lauder, the founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, in the race against breast cancer.

To that end, Wolford created the limited-edition Pink Ribbon Top, a black seamless stretch tube top with a long pink ribbon, which the wearer can tie in multiple ways. For instance, the top can be worn with the ribbon crisscrossing around the neck or tied around the waist. It can even double up as a miniskirt, with the pink ribbon as a belt-like embellishment.

To kick off the fund-raising season for her charity, Lauder stopped by Wolford’s Madison Avenue boutique last Tuesday.

“Wolford is headquartered in Austria and I was born in Vienna, so I have a fondness for the company,” said Lauder, who entered the store waving a platinum credit card. “I already have the top, but I am going to buy one for my daughter-in-law.”

The Pink Ribbon Top retails for $140 and Wolford will donate 10 percent of each sale to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In the U.S., the top is available at Wolford’s 22 boutiques, as well as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

“We are hoping to sell 10,000 tops worldwide,” said a Wolford spokeswoman.

Wolford also will participate in the Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative and on Wednesday will illuminate its 240 stores worldwide in pink to raise breast cancer awareness.
