PARIS — Yohji Yamamoto is delving into gems for the first time.

The iconoclastic designer has teamed up with Japanese cultured pearl specialist Mikimoto, which established the world’s first pearl farm in 1888, to launch a new jewelry brand whose name is being kept under wraps.

The first collection, using a spectrum of pearls from white to black, will be unveiled during couture week here in July.
