NEW YORK — Saks Fifth Avenue is continuing its tradition of tapping a major celebrity for its Key to the Cure campaign.

Following in the footsteps of Glenn Close, Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger has been named as this year's Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassador for KTTC, which is a partnership with EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund. Juicy Couture designed the limited edition T-shirt, which will be sold exclusively at Saks stores for $35, with all proceeds benefitting the fund. The campaign was shot by Michael Thompson and shows the actress wearing the T-shirt, which is emblazoned with the words "Viva la Cure."

"We've all been touched by cancer is some way," Zellweger said via e-mail. "Unfortunately, one out of four women will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime. That's why I'm lending my support to EIF's Women's Cancer Research Fund and Saks Fifth Avenue's Key to the Cure campaign. The funds raised are helping advance critical science to help find better ways to detect breast and other women's cancer early and treat it better."

Zellweger became involved in several women's cancer charities and research organizations after one of her best friends was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000.

"She received some of the most progressive treatments available today; treatments which resulted from the work of Dr. Dennis Slamon and others whose work is funded by organizations like the Women's Cancer Research Fund," Zellweger said. "My friend is seven years in remission. I know first hand the importance of supporting their commitment."

In the eight years since its launch, Key to the Cure has raised more than $23 million. For the fifth year, Mercedes-Benz will be an additional partner, and the automotive company will offer 1,000 special edition C350 Sport Sedans for the initiative, which it expects will raise $1 million for the cause.

Saks stores nationwide will host a shopping event Oct. 18-21, with a portion of sales in that period benefitting the fund. The Juicy Couture T-shirts will also be available at Saks stores and throughout October.

Zellweger admitted she is a Juicy Couture fan and wears pieces from the label "pretty much every day," she said. "I anticipate this pink and white tee will be getting a lot of mileage."
