12-DAY DESIGN FEST: NYCxDesign (NYC by Design) is coming to the five boroughs this spring. The first annual citywide event showcasing and promoting design will be held May 10 to 21. The 12-day event, which will feature exhibitions, installations, trade shows, talks, launches and open studios, will be bookended by the Frieze Art Fair on Randall’s Island and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Participating design communities include architecture, graphic design, fashion design, product design and manufacturing, industrial design and interior design. The event is being produced by the City Council, in conjunction with a 33-member steering committee which includes leaders from major cultural institutions, top design schools, designers and government officials.

“NYCxDesign will help demonstrate that New York City is the design capital of the world,” said City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn. “All five boroughs are home to a staggering amount of design talent in a wide range of disciplines, and this inaugural citywide event will help harness this potential and turn it into a tool for economic growth,” she said. Members of the design community interested in participating should register their event at nycxdesign.com.
