A MAGGIE MOMENT: Margaret Thatcher mania has been sweeping through London this week thanks to the premiere of “The Iron Lady,” and the windows of Anya Hindmarch’s Bespoke shop in Chelsea are no exception. Hindmarch — a proud Conservative Party member — has filled the windows of her Pont Street store with a legion of Thatcher-esque mannequins decked in cobalt pussy bow blouses, structured tweed jackets and the designer’s boxy leather Bespoke Ebury handbags in a variety of colors. Hindmarch and her team worked with the costume designer and stylist Tamar Zaig, who created the looks for Thatcher’s puppet on the famous British satirical TV program “Spitting Image,” and the clothes are a mix of Marks & Spencer and Aquascutum.
“The cleverest thing about Thatcher’s image was how her clothes never detracted from her character,” said Hindmarch. “That was quite a feat, I suspect, to look good and still not be talked about for your clothes.” The windows will remain until Jan. 23.
