MAXIM FACTOR: Following his well-received tome on Pierre Cardin last year, the designer’s longtime collaborator Jean-Pascal Hesse is publishing a book about Maxim’s. The famed Paris eatery has been owned by Cardin since 1981, but it has a history of welcoming jetsetters and aristocrats since it was founded in 1893. Hesse, a historian, has dug through the archives to tell the history of the Art Nouveau jewel, and the hardcover illustrated tome features photos of patrons including Maria Callas, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Barbra Streisand. The restaurant has featured in films including “Gigi” and Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” which will open the Cannes Film Festival in May. “Maxim’s, Mirror of Parisian Life” will be published on June 16, and will be toasted at a “Belle Epoque” dinner to be hosted by Cardin the following night.
ACT CRAZY: Following in the footsteps of Azzedine Alaia, Karl Lagerfeld, Emanuel Ungaro, Paco Rabanne and Roberto Cavalli, young French couturier Alexandre Vauthier — who counts Lady Gaga and Rihanna among his followers — has been tapped to create costumes for Paris’ legendary cabaret, Crazy Horse. The graphic costumes, created for the Patricia Folly-choreographed show, “Take My Love,” feature Lesage embroideries, and a new Latex specially designed to highlight the dancers’ bodies. The dance act is set to travel to the Cannes International Film Festival on May 16 for Chopard’s bash at the Martinez hotel. Titled “Happy Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” the event promises to be a glitzy affair.
