Akris to Mark Anniversary With Book

Valerie Steele to pen Assouline tome marking Swiss firm's 90th birthday.

A SWISS ACCOUNT: Swiss fashion house Akris — founded in picturesque St. Gallen 90 years ago — has tapped fashion historian and curator Valerie Steele to pen a book marking its anniversary. Steele, who is director of The Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology, said she visited the firm’s headquarters late last year to see the workrooms and archives. She said the focus of the Assouline tome would be the last decade, when designer Albert Kriemler ramped up Akris’s fashion profile. “I want to focus on the key signatures of his style,” she said from her front-row seat at the Akris show on Sunday. Akris chief executive Peter Kriemler said the family-owned company plans a number of activities to mark its milestone, with its Paris fashion show this fall among them.
