ROI RETURNS: Alice Roi, the edgy, downtown designer is making a comeback for spring after a four-year hiatus. Roi, who was nominated for the CFDA’s Perry Ellis Award for women’s apparel in 2001 and is known for her experimental designs in ready-to-wear, accessories and fur, said she got the “itch” to return to the world of fashion.
“I took time to raise my son, who is now four years old, and sort of stepped aside from my business when it was at its height. It was necessary and wonderful, but when you get that itch to start designing again, you have to go with it. I’m very excited,” said Roi. “My inspiration for spring is the Nineties.…There are some street styles but also some runway looks. The clothes are a little more laid-back, whereas before it was more experimental. I think the retail environment is ready for this.”
The 40-piece collection also includes boxy blouses with accents of silk crepe, low-slung pants with pressed leather pockets, leather-detailed skirts and dresses. Wholesale prices are $87 to $430.
“I’m doing this independently and have just begun showing the collection to retailers. Reaction has been good,” said Roi.
The collection is being shown at Williamson PR and Showroom in Manhattan.
