Alice Temperley Discusses MBE Honor at Parsons

The actress was honored by Queen Elizabeth II at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace.

ROYAL APPROVAL: Alice Temperley was surprised to find out she was to receive a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to notify her of her MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire. In fact, her knee-jerk reaction was that someone was playing a prank on her.

“I thought it was a joke actually,” she recalled at Parsons The New School for Design during a talk with the school’s dean of fashion Simon Collins Tuesday. “It was on such crappy paper and such a crappy envelope.”

The actual ceremony at Buckingham Palace in March, however, more than made up for the Queen’s stationery.

“I bought myself a little crown because I love the Queen,” the designer admitted.

Temperley is Stateside for a variety of events, including a trunk show at Bergdorf Goodman and next Monday’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner. This weekend, she is flying to Los Angeles to join Emma Roberts in co-hosting the launch of her book “True British.”
