CLOSING TIME: “I may be a bit biased, but I think London nailed it this week,” said Anya Hindmarch Wednesday night, at the dinner she co-hosted with British GQ to celebrate the close of the London Collections: Men shows.
And the designer admitted that she got a kick out of seeing the men attending the shows being saddled with the traditionally female burden of fretting over their attire. “I loved seeing the shoe on the other foot, watching all these men rushing around London worried about their outfits, while us girls stayed home with our feet up, letting our beards grow,” she teased.
The magazine hosted the fete at London’s Hakkasan, where among the guests were Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Ford, Douglas Booth, David Gandy and Robert Konjic, along with a clutch of London designers who numbered James Long, Patrick Grant, Richard Nicoll, Lou Dalton and Richard James.
Over dinner, the transatlantic crowd mused the difference between mating rituals either side of the pond. Rapper Tinie Tempah declared that for his part, slick pick-up lines were a no-no. “British girls won’t put up with that,” said Tempah, resplendent in a fur-collared Burberry coat. “No, the correct way to approach a woman is just to wing it. Be polite, genuine and a gentleman,” he counseled.
