ART TAKES FLIGHT: Oversize origami bird sculptures and vignettes made of paper, tiny white lights and a video projection are part of Elle Muliarchyk’s art installation at Rebecca Taylor’s flagship at 980 Madison Avenue. Taylor collaborated with the photographer and artist to design an exhibition inspired by “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils,” a Swedish fairy tale in which a boy gets shrunk by a gnome and flies across Sweden on the backs of migrating geese.
The artist, who is known for her vivid backdrops, blending science fiction with fairy tales, caught the attention of the fashion world. Muliarchyk, a former model, created a series of provocative self-portraits for the dressing rooms of haute couture houses. She is a contributor to W, V, Interview, Garage and The New York Times.
“Elle actually used to model in my runway shows,” said Taylor. “I recently became aware of her art and photography. I thought the installation would be a really interesting and fun project to collaborate on for our new Madison Avenue store.”
