IN A FLASH: Audemars Piguet is the official sponsor of “Flash: Light,” the May 7 event produced by Nuit Blanche New York featuring site-specific light and projection art at Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The highlight of the show will be co-founder Jeff Grantz’s animated light installation, but the artist also partook in the creation of the larger-than-life timepiece that will take over the front of the cathedral — incorporating Audemars Piguet’s classic movements and branding within the gears and mechanisms of its timepieces. This is the Swiss watch company’s first foray into the art world, and president of Audemars Piguet North America Francois-Henry Bennahmias said the brand’s longstanding history of sponsoring dynamic events led him to jump at the chance to be involved with the temporary, site-specific public art showcased at the event. “Supporting the work of emerging artists truly mirrors our audacious approach to philanthropy,” said Bennahmias.
