LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: As part of its ongoing 250th anniversary celebration this year, crystal maker Baccarat asked Joséphine de la Baume, Chiara Clemente and Sonia Sieff to each lens a short film for a series called “Legendary Stories.” They premiered Tuesday in the house’s Paris flagship and went online, at baccarat-legendary.com, the same day.
“Harcourt is the star of the movies,” said Jaime Jiménez, senior director, marketing and communications for Baccarat in the Americas, referring to the brand’s oldest glass line, dating from 1841.
The movies, each one a love story, range from almost four minutes to just over nine minutes.
De la Baume’ takes place in London and features two quirky young neighbors falling in love. They press Harcourt glasses against their adjoining wall to listen for each other’s whereabouts.
Clemente filmed artist Alex Katz with his muse and wife Ada Katz in New York discussing their meeting, early years and enduring love. Baccarat’s glasses figure on Katz’s worktable.
Sieff shot her movie, starring Caroline de Maigret and Thierry Frémont, in the restaurant at Maison Baccarat on Paris’ Place des États-Unis. Called “Ex,” the film portrays a couple’s stormy relationship.
The iconic Harcourt collection — which is found in royal palaces, embassies and the Vatican, among other locales — has already inspired a host of designers, including Philippe Starck, who have incorporated the motif into their work for Baccarat.
The brand’s anniversary celebrations continue this year, including a retrospective at Paris’ Petit Palais and 16 chandeliers being hung down Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive, both starting this fall.
