BELGIAN BAGGAGE: Belgian handbag and accessories brand Kipling has called upon one of its own — Natalie Joos — for a new luggage collection. “Belgians have a special place in their hearts and homes for Kipling,” said Joos. “As kids, we all had a Kipling bag or some other accessory and the little monkey was a huge hit. And apparently the Kipling trend is still very real. Kids in school are still begging their parents to buy them a book bag.”
The capsule collection, due out in June, will feature four styles designed for summer travel: a large trolley, a carry-on, a beach bag and a toiletries bag. “I wanted to keep it clean, classic and simple, but not boring,” said Joos. “I didn’t want to design anything trendy or flashy. It had to be minimal and fresh and the idea came to me quite fast and easy.”

For Joos, color was also particularly important when it came to the design process. “Designwise I chose for colorblocking in my favorite colors,” she said of the purple, orange and red hues. “I created a new color blue that will hopefully persist in future Kipling productions.”
Details include white zippers, a palm tree print lining and a miniature white monkey wearing red lipstick — “my signature,” Joos explained.
