THREE’S COMPANY: Bergdorf Goodman formally welcomed one of its newest labels, Sacai, Monday night with an in-store cocktail and dinner to toast Chitose Abe. Her hybrid designs earned her prime positioning on Bergdorf’s third floor, across from Céline and Marc Jacobs and adjacent to Altuzarra and Marco di Vincenzo.
“I don’t remember the last time I was this excited about getting a new brand,” said Linda Fargo, who hosted the cocktail reception, noting that Bergdorf had waited for just the right moment so that Sacai could have good real estate within the store. “We made a lot of movement because of the new sixth floor, which created more real estate opportunities for us. We were able to rework the vendor matrix in each area, otherwise Sacai might have ended up in our lab, but they were able to come in with a really good showcase.”
Abe was also happy with her placement and the fact that the retailer let her bring in her own fixtures, vintage furniture encased in acrylic by The Gel Shop, with which she’s worked on her in-store displays at Dover Street Market. Mannequins featuring looks from Sacai’s spring collection also lined the aisles of the third floor. In New York from Tokyo for a few days, Abe shot the ad campaign for her NikeLab collection over the weekend.
