BERGDORF STACKS UP: This year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair is still more than two weeks away, but Bergdorf Goodman is already touting the event in its 57th Street windows. David Hoey and Shane Ruth are celebrating the show with pieces from 16 exhibitors including Vitra, Tom Dixon, Artek USA Inc, Mary Wallis and Carlo Aiello.
Bergdorf window shoppers, who read the fine print, will see that the ICFF runs May 18-21 at the Jacob K. Javits Center. For the show’s 25th anniversary, organizers have lined up such speakers as David Rockwell, IDEO’s Tom Eich and Dirk Vander Kooij. For the first time, ICFF will offer Material Makers to examine the hands-on process required for design innovation and product development. A few exhibitors will be matched up with select designers to create exclusive products to be displayed at ICFF. Dixon, for example, will collaborate in real time with the high-tech company TRUMPF Inc.
Another new element will be DesignX, a series of workshops devoted to digital design and fabrication technology. Parametric design, direct-to-fabrication and web-based design apps will be among the topics discussed. The aim is to bring designers up-to-speed about the latest software and show them how to use fabrication technology to bring their ideas to reality.
