DVF UNCENSORED: Monday’s CFDA awards were just the start of what has been whirlwind week for Diane von Furstenberg. The designer also presented her resort collection, launched DVF Made for Google Glass, started filming her E! reality show, talked shop with 100 Bergdorf Goodman staffers Thursday morning and returned to the flagship that afternoon for a two-hour meet-and-greet with shoppers. While fans checked out the exclusive capsule collection and waited patiently for a word with her, von Furstenberg said she has wrapped up writing her latest book “The Woman I Wanted to Be,” which will be published in November. “Everyone I have given the book to has cried. My husband cried — I don’t know if that is good,” von Furstenberg said. “It’s very honest.”
Candidness is her calling card even when filming the search for a brand ambassador. “I have to be me and everything is authentic. Nothing is scripted. Those girls are in the company and they are learning,” she said. “…And it’s fun. Anyway, we always say that we are a sitcom in the office.”

Von Furstenberg said of the wrap dress’ 40th anniversary has been a renewal. “The good thing about age is you have a past. And if you have a past, it means you have a story and that you’re legitimate. If you like your past, it’s OK. The point is that this exhibition was like before and after and now it’s a whole new beginning. I am carving into the DNA. I’m building an infrastructure. I’m bringing in talented people, I’m telling them all the things and then they will manage without me,” she said. “I became the woman I wanted to be because of that dress and because of that dress I give confidence to other people so it’s a beautiful story. And it’s a true story.”
And one she will revisit this weekend. “Tonight I’m going to the country — no make-up, no hair, nobody. I’m going swimming. My book is finished and I’ve delivered it. But this weekend I am going to read it with some detachment,” the designer said.
