BRAZILIAN IMPORTS: Following on the (plastic) heels of Gareth Pugh and Jason Wu, Pedro Lourenço is the latest designer collaborating with the shoe brand Melissa on two styles that are launching for resort 2013.
Like Melissa, Lourenço is also from Brazil. “They have this specific technique in which the shoe comes out of the machine in one piece,” said Laurenço. “I was always obsessed with that but it’s very expensive to create a shape. Like, a fortune.” He embraced his opportunity to take advantage of the Melissa mold-injection method to create something timeless. “No crazy inspirations or ideas, just something very simple,” said Laurenço, who was in New York Wednesday to host a cocktail party at the Melissa store in SoHo followed by a private dinner at Indochine.
