BRIONI TO COHOST: The Serpentine Galleries’ annual summer party is always a major moment in London’s social calendar, but this year’s event looks as if it will draw a particularly high-powered crowd. Among the party’s cohosts are Michael R. Bloomberg; Kering’s chairman and chief executive officer, François-Henri Pinault; André Balazs, and artist Marina Abramovic. Brioni is sponsoring the party, and other cohosts include Brioni’s creative director Brendan Mullane, along with the Serpentine’s codirectors of exhibitions and programs, Julia Peyton-Jones and Hans Ulrich Obrist. The party will take place at the Serpentine’s Kensington Gardens home on July 1 and celebrates the galleries’ annual pavilion project, with this year’s temporary structure to be designed by the Chilean architect Smiljan Radic.
Releasing details of the pavilion last month, the galleries said that Radic’s structure will resemble a shell resting on large quarry stones. Peyton-Jones described Radic’s design for the pavilion as “excitingly futuristic, appearing like an alien space pod that has come to rest on a Neolithic site.” The pavilion will open June 26 and stay up through Oct. 19.
