BRIT IN MILAN: Burberry celebrated the opening of its new Via Montenapoleone women’s wear store Thursday with a raucous cocktail party attended by more than 600 guests, with a live DJ set by Rory Cottam. “It’s a little piece of England in the heart of Milan,” said Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer. “Milan is like a second home to me. I love Milan: It’s more like a town, with these transient communities that come for fashion week and furniture week, but then you always have this very ‘Milanese’ side that never changes.”

He was especially proud of the way the store reflects traditional English crafts. Corinthian beige marble, polished black chrome and bronze were visible in the colossal, 8,500-square-foot boutique, which includes an interior courtyard and terrace and is the first freestanding Burberry space in Italy to include both the Burberry Prorsum and Burberry London collections, as well as accessories, eyewear, watches and fragrances. Bailey developed the concept in keeping with London’s new Regent Street flagship.

There are seven Burberry stores in Italy, including the one on neighboring Via Verri, now the brand’s first men’s wear store in Milan. Bailey said men’s wear is also experiencing “very strong” momentum across all product categories.
