Michele will receive the accolade for his work as the creative director of Gucci. Michele, who took the helm of the Italian label in January, has shown four collections since his appointment. The designer has worked with the brand for 13 years, having been recruited by Tom Ford in 2002. He was formerly a senior accessories designer at Fendi.
“Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci,” said Natalie Massenet, chairman of the British Fashion Council. “His exciting, eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience, bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customers in his heart and celebrates them.”
The British Fashion Awards are scheduled for Nov. 23 at the London Coliseum.
