FRIENDS & FAMILY: Just a few hours ago, Burberry broke the 3-million fan-barrier on Facebook, becoming the most-widely followed fashion brand on the social networking site, according to Joanna Shields, vice president for Facebook EMEA. “Burberry is no longer just a fashion company – today they are a thriving media enterprise,” Shields said. “[Burberry’s] successful not just because it makes great clothes but because it understands the importance of sparking interest in the community and using social media to engage and delight their consumers.” Its Web efforts, from livestreaming its shows to initiatives like “The Art of the Trench” are reaching the online community. It took Burberry about a year to have 1 million Facebook fans, six months to double that figure and just another month to add another 1 million to its fanbase. As a thank you, designer Christopher Bailey created a visual card, which can now be viewed on Burberry’s Facebook page.
