BURBERRY UNVEILS SCHOLARSHIP: Burberry has launched a new scholarship program with London’s Royal College of Art, the school said Tuesday.
The Burberry Design Scholarship will provide the full two-year tuition costs for a number of RCA master’s students over a ten-year period, for a total of 25 MA students. The scholarship will be open to students studying for master’s degrees in architecture, design interactions, fashion, innovation design engineering, photography, textiles and visual communication. Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer at Burberry, is himself a 1994 graduate of the RCA, and received a scholarship to attend the college, awarded by the family of the late designer Bill Gibb. “It’s for this reason that I feel so proud that we at Burberry are able to offer this opportunity to the creative talent of tomorrow, giving a new generation of designers the chance to benefit from the world-class expertise, facilities, teaching, experience and mentoring that this collaboration will bring,” Bailey said.
Burberry will also provide each recipient of the scholarship with an iPad to assist in their studies, and the recipients will also have the opportunity to undertake a two-week internship at Burberry during each year of their degree.
