CABANA TO LAUNCH POP-UP: Cabana, the luxury lifestyle and design magazine launched by Martina Mondadori last year, will open its first pop-up store at Miart, the Milan-based contemporary and modern art trade show, to be inaugurated on April 9 by invitation only and then open to the public April 10 to 12.
“The opening of a pop-up store is a kind of natural consequence for a project like Cabana,” said Mondadori, who is editor-in-chief of the biannual magazine. “We realized that both the private and public spaces we shoot for Cabana are not only extremely charming but are also full of stuff, layered with fragments of real life, filled with things ranging from contemporary art pieces to objects found at flea markets – to make a long story short, the exact opposite of minimal interior design.”
In keeping with the magazine’s editorial philosophy, the pop-up store, which Mondadori described as “a hybrid between a bazaar and a cabinet of curiosities” and which will be covered with an exclusive Pierre Frey wallpaper, will carry a wide selection of pieces, spanning from antiquities to items created on purpose by artisans or objects selected from already existing collections. These last include a series of cushions designed by Rifat Ozbek and gilded pieces from sisters Stella and Issy Tennant’s line, while Osanna Visconti crafted customized candle holders and stools. In addition, Cabana created exclusive branded plates, inspired by Turkish tiles and available in four different color combinations, manufactured by the Laboratorio Paravicini in Milan.
The pop-up store will also be available online thanks to a partnership with 1stdibs.
To coincide with the opening, Cabana will launch its third issue, which will come with the cover made from 18 different Etro fabrics, personally picked by Veronica and Jacopo Etro. For the duration of Miart, the windows of the fashion brand’s boutique on Milan’s Via Montenapoleone will feature a special installation dedicated to Cabana.
