MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS: Caleres, the company formerly known as Brown Shoe Co., and the Saint Louis Fashion Fund have lined up its details for the second annual St. Louis Fashion Week and the Caleres Emerging Designer Award 2015-16. The winner will take home a cash grant of $25,000 at the Nov. 4 gala and runway show where 1,000 guests are expected at Union Station in St. Louis. Designs from six finalists gleaned from online submissions will be featured on the runway. Along with the grant, the Caleres award winner will have an item produced and mentoring from a fashion executive.
U.S.-based designers can apply online through next month via the Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Web site, and the six finalists will be named in early August during a New York event. Judges are Barneys’ fashion director Tomoko Ogura, LaForce + Stevens’ chief executive officer James LaForce, Hilldin Corp. co-ceo and Interluxe Holdings LLC’s chairman Gary Wassner and designer Lisa Perry. In addition, Roopal Patel of RPC Consulting will help identify possible suit missions and craft a design challenge for the finalists.
