UNITED COLORS: Echoing a key influence seen in several men’s fall collections, Phoebe Philo tapped into the late Seventies, early Eighties mood for Céline’s pre-fall collection, unveiled during couture week at its Rue Vivienne headquarters on Tuesday.

Roomy suede coats and austere, midi-length silk tunics came layered over sharply pleated wide pants, each ensemble rendered in various tones of purple, nutmeg, avocado and burgundy. This daring effort from Philo included oversized men’s jackets, some in noisy car-salesman plaids, and high-neck shirts, blouses and sleeveless dresses with tie-necks.

Philo won’t release pictures until shortly ahead of mid-June shipments to stores, including a new Céline unit in the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, slated for a June opening.
