As an increasing number of designers continue to count on Asia for future growth, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has partnered with Singapore Fashion Week.
To launch the May 13 to 17 event, Diane von Furstenberg will stage the first fashion show on opening day. Thakoon Panichgul will also present his fall collection in Singapore on May 16. The trifecta of out-of-town talent will include Victoria Beckham, who will also fly in to host her own runway show.
In the previous eight editions of SFW, designers such as Carolina Herrera, Roberto Cavalli, Hussein Chalayan, Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Peter Pilotto, Erdem, Angela Missoni, Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared and Roland Mouret have participated alongside leading Asian designers.
Through the global strategic alliance with the CFDA, SFW is meant to be a win-win arrangement in that American designers will become more recognized in the integral Asian market and, through an exchangelike program, Singapore designers will get a better understanding of the American market.
