CHANGING TACK: Who says consumers have no power? Neiman Marcus had planned to close the Fresh Market on the third floor of its Beverly Hills location in August to make way for more floor space for contemporary clothing, but it decided to reverse course after customers pleaded with the department store to retain the restaurant. An online petition at change.org to keep Fresh Market has racked up 100 signatures so far. “The customers let us know loud, vociferously and passionately that they really loved it, so I was glad we were able to go back and find a way to incorporate it,” said Neiman Marcus spokeswoman Ginger Reeder. A remodel is still scheduled on the third floor, and Fresh Market will be closed temporarily during the remodel. When the remodel is over, Reeder suggested the eatery should be “along the lines” of the current Fresh Market and satisfy those who have a hankering for a little nosh to fuel their shopping trips.
