CHILDREN’S CRUSADE: A fashionable crowd turned out for a sobering screening of The Weinstein Company’s “Bully” on Sunday afternoon at the Crosby Street Hotel. The disquieting documentary, directed by Lee Hirsch, paints five intimate portraits of bullied children and their families, including two who committed suicide. “I have a middle school child, another child about to enter middle school and a grade-schooler, so I’ve seen social combat in all its forms,” said Kelly Ripa, who co-hosted the screening with Anderson Cooper, along with The Cinema Society and Bing. “I think it’s gotten worse because there’s Facebook and children have a lot of freedom on the computer. We’re very boring and strict parents, and we keep our computer under lock and key and the children have to use it in the kitchen and they can only use it for homework. They don’t have social media, so they are sheltered and they give us a hard time about it.”
In the audience were Harvey Weinstein, Courtney Love, Rachel Roy, Russell Simmons, Prabal Gurung, David LaChapelle, Michelle Trachtenberg, Carson Kressley and Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos.
