CHILD’S PLAY: “I remember back in the Seventies when my sister and Jennifer Connelly would model for our children’s shows, and then we stopped for almost 30 years, so this is fun,” David Lauren said Monday night backstage before Ralph Lauren’s fall kids’ show at the New York Public Library.
Hosted by Uma Thurman, the event marked the launch of the brand’s literacy initiative. A percentage of sales from the collection and a specially designed Polo Pony T-shirt will benefit Reach Out & Read, an organization dedicated to providing access to books and reading support for children in need.

Guests at the show included Edie Falco and her daughter Macy, Nicole Hanley Mellon and her son Force and Veronica Beard with daughters Helaina and Scarlett. Alicia Keys was on hand to watch her three-year-old son Egypt Dean take the runway in a herringbone blazer, intarsia puppy sweater, tartan pants and driving mocs, while four-year-old Chinese reality show phenom Angela Wang modeled a velvet-and-tulle party dress. Other looks included both sophisticated and tomboy takes on back-to-school dressing with everything from sporty rugby shirts and dresses to bomber jackets, princess coats and skinny jeans.
The evening ended with a song as the young stars of Broadway’s “Matilda the Musical” took over the lobby to perform for the crowd.
