Christian Louboutin’s Conservative Take

The designer's pre-fall collection featured classic shapes, more subdued colorways and fewer — or at least more subtle — spikes.

TONED DOWN: Although it’s not eschewing those signature spikes altogether, Christian Louboutin’s pre-fall collection was a more conservative take with classic shapes, more subdued colorways and fewer — or at least more subtle — spikes. Tailored fabric borrowed from suiting accented the New Orleans brogue (as did wine-colored velvet and animal print glitter); lace up espadrille-cum-desert-boots came in suede — and there were also tan leather high-tops, a new hand-stitched Chelsea boot, the Antonio and just the whisper of a spike on the tassel of a slip-on loafer. Sneakers and skater shoes came with more pronounced studs and a blingier Prince of Wales check catering to those with more maximalist tendencies.
