SOUTH AFRICA VISIT: Last week, South Africa welcomed Christie Brinkley, her daughter Sailor Cook and actress Bai Ling, who pledged their support for a rhino conservation project spearheaded by local jeweler Jenna Clifford. Breezing into Johannesburg this week for a quick visit was Carolina Herrera’s daughter, Carolina Herrera Jr., who was introduced to guests at an exclusive cocktail reception at the store Luminance as Carolina Herrera de Baez.
The creative director for CH Perfumes, de Baez was in town representing her mother’s company and to launch the South African chapter of Support with a Smile, a breast cancer awareness initiative it champions worldwide.
De Baez told WWD that “this is something we already do in the Middle East and Latin America. In South Africa, we have partnered with Dr. Carol-Ann Benn of the Breast Health Foundation. We are delighted to be working with her. She is considered one of the top breast care experts in South Africa, and has done amazing work in providing palliative care for breast cancer sufferers.” Carolina Herrera Ltd has committed to a donation of $500,000 over the next five years to provide ongoing support for this cause.
The Madrid-based Herrera de Baez, dressed in a simple white silk top with black trim and black trousers — Carolina Herrera, of course — earlier in the day visited South Africa’s top design school, LISOF, and met with fashion design students and chatted to them informally about creating a sustainable fashion brand.
Making its debut in South Africa on the same night was Wish, this year’s new limited edition fragrance from the CH Pink range, conceived to help in the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from the sale of the perfume will go to Support with a Smile.
