DEMOCRATIC FASHION: When Christopher Kane sent Crocs down the runway in London last month, fashion land was up in arms. It turns out the Scottish designer really is a fan of the much-maligned foam clogs and wears them himself in his spare time. “Crocs are great, I love them,” said Kane at an event to celebrate the launch of his 10-year capsule collection of sweatshirts at Colette Tuesday evening.
“I don’t really care what anyone thinks. I don’t think anyone’s got the right to say right or wrong, unless they’re God, otherwise just shut up,” he continued.
“I knew people were going to react in that way, but it wasn’t about being controversial. The fact is Crocs is a huge successful business on its own, they don’t need me to make them even more successful,” he continued. “Obviously people do like them, and that’s a different customer that I want to grab. I want to include everyone and not be a snob.”
Kane’s capsule collection of 10 sweatshirts, each featuring a signature print from the decade of his label’s existence, is available on his own e-commerce site and at select retailers including Colette. “They are basically patchwork memories of my career,” explained the designer. Prices for the sweatshirts range from 295 to 795 euros, or $330 to $889 at current exchange.
