NO HURRY: Brooke Shields and jeweler Kimberly McDonald hosted a cocktail party at Les Deux Tuesday night to celebrate McDonald’s latest collection, the sales of which benefit Conservation International and the protection of endangered species. “I fell in love with her designs years ago, so I was truly a fan, and I love her respect for nature and the environment, as well,” said Shields, who wore a sea turtle-shaped agate pendant. But her affinity for fine jewelry hasn’t inspired Shields to try her hand at design — yet. “There are so many things to do every day. All that would be further down the road, and it would have to happen organically. There is a time and place to get involved, and you have to earn it, you can’t just declare yourself a designer one day.”

GARDEN OF DELIGHTS: Louis Vuitton brought the green of an English garden into inner-city London Tuesday night. The label celebrated the opening of its new store in London’s Westfield mall by hosting an urban garden installation by artist Jeremy Deller.
Deller had strewn a carpet of hay outside the store, and dotted about plastic grow bags filled with chives, coriander, red currants, irises and lilies, all watched over by a few straw scarecrows — though he admitted the jaunty shirts they were wearing weren’t Louis Vuitton’s own. The 4,300-square-foot store is on the ground floor of Westfield’s upscale Village area, near Prada, Gucci and Dior boutiques. Philippe Schaus, senior vice president, international, at Louis Vuitton, said the brand will continue to build its European presence. The label will open a new Louis Vuitton Maison on London’s Bond Street in February, designed by architect Peter Marino. “It will take the in-store experience to the next level of luxury, refinement and coziness,” said Schaus. “It’s a once-every-year kind of project.” The company also will open a store on Rome’s Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina in 2010.
THE THIN RED LINE: Prada launched its first Linea Rossa Optical collection licensed to Luxottica Group in Athens Wednesday at the Italian fashion brand’s store. The collection is a development of the Linea Rossa eyewear collection leveraging sports equipment technologies with active details such as rubber nose pads and temple tips for high-performance grip and fit. Powdery shades of army green, stone and dark brown, black, white and red, and vivid semitransparent acetates in red, blue, green, brown and opaline contribute to the informal look of the collection. Advertising images were shot by Hedi Slimane, also in charge of Prada Men’s campaign.
KNIT HIT: Georgina Brandolini’s reputation as the penultimate sweater girl has landed her a design gig at French brand Antik Batik. Brandolini, who had a line of sweaters in her post-Balmain and -Valentino careers, has already started work on a range of cashmere sweaters for the brand, which operates three boutiques in Paris and one in Dubai, and wholesales to about 1,000 multibrand shops. “They want me to design the way I dress,” she said, tugging a chocolate brown perfecto from her jade, scoopneck sweater. The Antik Batik by Georgina Brandolini label is expected to arrive in stores in October.
