Concept Korea Heads to Fashion Week

The program aims to promote Korean talent here.

KOREAN INVASION: Many U.S. firms see South Korea as a market with growth potential, and conversely, the U.S. seems to represent the same for Korean designers. This New York Fashion Week, the Concept Korea initiative will return with a fashion show at Avery Fisher Hall on Sept. 9. The program aims to promote Korean talent here, and this year will feature Doho, Son Jung Wan, Steve J & Yoni P and Lie Sang Bong for women’s wear and Juyoung Lee’s Resurrection for men’s wear. They were picked by a selection committee that includes the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Lisa Smilor, consultant Fern Mallis, the Museum at FIT’s Valerie Steele, and IMG Fashion’s Christina Neault. South Korea’s vice minister Park Sun Kyu and minister of culture and tourism Jeong Byoung-Guk are expected to be on hand to wave the flag for South Korea’s emerging fashion scene.
