CREATIVE NOTICE: The Council of Fashion Designers of America takes copying very seriously. Now, as part of the mission to fight it, the association sent a Design Manifesto poster to nearly 1,300 people in design studios, retail offices, fashion schools and other fashion environments. “Design begins with creativity, so we have created this Design Manifesto as a reminder to respect the rightful ownership of ideas,” CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg wrote in the letter that accompanied the poster. “The CFDA believes the protection of the intellectual property of designers begins with each of us, and this Design Manifesto is a reminder that originality always wins. Hang it in your creative space and be proud of who you are.”
CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb echoed the sentiments. “We feel that beyond the legislation, we have an obligation to protect design and insure it has an important place in our business,” he said.

Those who didn’t receive theirs can download a smaller poster on CFDA.com. The CFDA also created small sketchbooks with a Design Manifesto cover, which will be distributed during New York Fashion Week next month.
