DESIGNER MUSINGS: The Council of Fashion Designers of America is set to release “The Pursuit of Style: Advice and Musings From America’s Top Fashion Designers,” its latest book, this month. Published by Abrams, the tome features musings from the organization’s 400-plus members, including Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Narciso Rodriguez, Zac Posen and Betsey Johnson. These range from personal insights to career advice, thoughts on wardrobe essentials and other pieces of wisdom they have picked up along the way.
CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg wrote the foreword, along with its chief executive officer Steven Kolb. Bill Donovan was behind the illustrations, while Jessica Alba penned the introduction. “For all that our clothes can say about us, we know so little about the inspirations and aspirations of the designers themselves,” Alba stated. “Through touching personal stories and funny quips, this book shows the character and standards of style of some of the brightest stars in American fashion as they give their simple advice on what matters the most: passion, creativity and being the best version of yourself you can possibly be.” The book will be available April 15.
