DESIGNER STARS: The Council of Fashion Designers of America is 50 next year, and for the occasion, it launched an endowment drive called “The Stars of American Fashion.” The CFDA plans to raise $2.5 million for the organization and its initiatives by selling 50 stars at $50,000 each — with each designer who buys one personalizing theirs, and the 50 resulting stars ending up on a special American flag. So far, 28 designers and brands snapped up stars. They are Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Nicole Miller, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein Inc., Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Tommy Hilfiger, Gilles Mendel, Elie Tahari, Reed Krakoff, Geoffrey Beene, Liz Claiborne, Kenneth Cole, Oscar de la Renta, Stan Herman, David Yurman, Max and Lubov Azria, Josie Natori, Theory, Anne Klein, the Kate Spade company, Oleg Cassini, Tom Ford, John Varvatos and David Chu.
