NAME CHANGE: It’s a new era under Diane von Furstenberg’s chief creative director, Jonathan Saunders. The designer has opted to switch the name of the upcoming Diane von Furstenberg pre-fall collection for the first time, calling it the “summer” collection instead — a title that more accurately reflects the season in which the collection hits stores. (Pre-fall collections typically start trickling into stores in June and July and can sit on retailers’ floors for long stretches, often up to six months.) Though many designers refer to their pre-fall lineups casually as “summer,” the “pre-fall” name has always stuck as an official title within the industry, despite the misleading moniker.
