DIEGO’S BANK STAKE: Is Diego Della Valle Italy’s version of Warren Buffett and his investment in Bank of America? The Tod’s chairman and chief executive officer confirmed Tuesday he has increased his shares in Italy’s giant merchant bank Mediobanca through a privately controlled financial vehicle. The entrepreneur now holds a stake of 1.9 percent, up from 0.48 percent. Della Valle has a diversified portfolio of investments, ranging from fashion to media, sports to manufacturing to transportation, including a 14.5 percent stake in Saks Inc.; a high-speed train venture with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo; motorcycle firm Piaggio; iconic coffee-machine maker Bialetti; RCS MediaGroup, which owns the newspaper Corriere della Sera; furniture producer Poltrona Frau; film studio Cinecittà, and the city of Florence’s soccer team, Fiorentina.
