DALLAS MASQUERADE: After years of presenting spectacular runway shows, DIFFA Dallas invited guests to shine this year. The non-profit adopted a masquerade theme for its annual black-tie benefit, fueling the creative forces of 1,530 ticket holders Saturday at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Some, like D’Andra Simmons, commissioned elaborate phalanxes of feathers for the occasion, while others made a quick trip to the Venetian mask selection at Pier 1. The annual shindig auctioned men’s and women’s jackets, gowns, jewels and trips to support AIDS service organizations in North Texas. A bevy of fashion luminaries sent jackets, including Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent, while several local designers styled unique garments for the occasion, including Geoffrey Henning, Kelli Kouri and Ruby Charles by Ruqaiyah Johnson. Dallas artist Robert Chapa’s white cut-paper breastplate with palace epaulets recalled the days when all DIFFA donors aspired to create mini works of art. Every piece paraded the runway followed by a live auction crowned by the $18,500 sale of a trip to Kimberly McDonald’s Los Angeles studio and a pair of custom bracelets. A second runway show highlighted spring fashions from Traffic Los Angeles, many accented by towering headpieces.
