DRAWING THEM IN: Diesel honcho Renzo Rosso was among guests who attended a cocktail party on Thursday night at 10 Corso Como to fete its pop-up store for the first collection designed by Raf Simons for Dior. It’s one of a series of temporary spaces set to sprout up in locations including Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing.
Located on the first floor of the Milan concept store, the pop-up features ready-to-wear and accessories displayed against the backdrop of video images of models wearing the outfits. Other designs were displayed on mannequins on the main floor of the store.
Across town at the 19th-century Poldi Pezzoli Museum, which houses works by the likes of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Canaletto, Vionnet owner Goga Ashkenazi unveiled “Thayaht: Between Art and Fashion,” an exhibit featuring 60 drawings by the futuristic artist of dresses by Madeleine Vionnet.
“Interesting body-types, no?” laughed Goga Ashkenazi, referring to the more curvaceous models donning the designs. “I love the way each had character and each can be an inspiration,” said Ashkenazi, who bought the illustrations, which had never before shown to the public, from a private collector in Florence. Thayaht also created the house’s logo.
While perusing the halls of the exhibit, artist Francesco Vezzoli said he was gearing up for three exhibitions on both sides of the Atlantic. “Galleria Vezzoli” is slated to open at the MAXXI museum in Rome at the end of May, with subsequent exhibitions at the MoMa and P.S. 1. The latter showcase sounds like a feat of engineering. “We’re moving a church from the south of Italy into the courtyard of P.S. 1,” he said.
