Tinker Bell is the latest Disney character getting a fashion push. From time to time, Disney partners with various fashion firms — ranging from Uniqlo to Marc by Marc Jacobs to Barneys New York — to cash in on its classic characters’ fashion equity. For spring, Disney is collaborating with Los Angeles-based T-shirt company Nation Ltd., designed by Jen Menchaca, on a Tinker Bell capsule collection, including tanks, T-shirts and sweatshirts featuring pixie dust prints and a vintage Tinker Bell sketch print. There’s also a Tiger Lily dress with macramé details. Prices range from $78 to $136.
It was reported earlier this year that Reese Witherspoon was developing a Tink spinoff, but according to Karen Torpey, director of licensing for Disney consumer products, the Tinker Bell/Nation collaboration is based on the fact that the character, who dates back to 1953, “was ahead of her time sporting an effortless top knot, strapless minidress and signature flats. On top of that, her confidence, attitude and personality make her relevant and relatable to the modern woman.”
Actress Bella Thorne wore a Tinker Bell-inspired look to the MTV Video Music Awards this year and Torpey said that there are additional beauty and fashion partnerships for Tinker Bell in the pipeline.
