DOLLED UP: Getting your hands on a Barbie Lagerfeld will not be child’s play. Karl Lagerfeld and Mattel Inc. are to produce only 999 of the dolls, part of the Barbie Collector series and priced at around $200. The figurine is to go on sale Sept. 29, in the midst of Paris Fashion Week, at select Karl Lagerfeld boutiques, Colette in Paris and the Web sites thebarbiecollection.com and Net-a-porter.com, Lagerfeld’s launch partner for his signature label.
Photos of the doll, including one of her looking up at the famous couturier, reveal the fine detail of her outfit, with accents taken from the actual Karl Lagerfeld line. For example, the miniature jeans glisten with the jacquard print of the designer’s cameo, while the tailored black jacket has a twill texture, skinny sleeves and glossy lapels.
