HOME RUN: Donna Karan is the quintessential New Yorker, and on Friday, she got to do something that is quintessentially New York — attend a Yankees game. This being Donna, though, she didn’t just sit in the stands. DKNY recently inked a long-term, multifaceted sponsorship deal with the New York Yankees, and Karan was on the field before the game cozying up to Yankees such as Alex Rodriguez and Joe Girardi. “I really want to pitch and they won’t let me pitch, and I want to hit the ball but they won’t let me hit the ball,” Karan said, from the field. She nevertheless couldn’t contain her excitement at the moment. “These guys are really cool. This is really fun. I can only salute them.”
RING TONES: Anish Kapoor is taking his signature contemporary sculptures downscale — just a few notches. The sculptor, known for his experiments with color, scale and unusual materials in works at The Tate Modern in London and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, has teamed with Bulgari on a ring in honor of the 10th anniversary of the firm’s iconic B.Zero 1 collection. Kapoor’s rose gold and steel ring that sells for $840 will be unveiled to editors on May 4 and 5, which is also when they hit stores.
FINLEY ON SCHEDULE: Ruth Finley will receive the Accessories Council’s Hall of Fame 2010 Tribute on June 15 at Marchon’s New York showroom. Finley is celebrating her 65th anniversary as the publisher and founder of the Fashion Calendar. “The Fashion Calendar is an indispensable tool for our industry and we are overjoyed to honor a veteran who not only makes the industry function efficiently, but someone who cares about each and every individual within fashion,” said Accessories Council President Karen Giberson. The Council will donate 50 percent of the evening’s proceeds to the High School of Fashion Industries.
