Down Under Designers

A crew of Australian designers and a former Miss Universe will hit L.A. to promote the country's fashion industry.

A crew of Australian designers and a former Miss Universe will hit Los Angeles later this month to promote the country’s fashion industry. Beauty queen Jennifer Hawkins, who recently graced the cover of Australian Marie Claire nude without retouching, will grace the runway in a special fashion show on Jan. 16. Co-sponsored by Australian department store Myer and airline Quantas, the show will feature the fall-winter 2010 collections of nine Australian designers including Camilla and Marc, Jayson Brunsdon and Aurelio Costarella. Hawkins will open the show with a look from her own swimwear line Cozi and close it with a specially created gown by Yeojin Bae. The catwalk event will precede a black tie dinner at the Hollywood and Highland grand ballroom. The annual dinner honors Australian luminaries and this year’s picks are actress Toni Collette, actor Simon Baker and golfer Greg Norman. The fashion show and dinner are a part “G’Day USA,” a string of Australian promotional events taking place across the country.
