Canadian-born designers Dean and Dan Caten, founders and creative directors of Dsquared2, partnered with Manchester City Football Club to design the team’s pre-match uniforms. The three-year collaboration debuted on Tuesday, when coach Pep Guardiola and his team sported Dsquared2 casual attires at Manchester Airport before jetting off to play against FC Barcelona in the Champions League match, scheduled on Wednesday night.

The traveling outfit combined a varsity bomber jacket with Dsquared2 signature denim pants, white shirt and sneakers. A gray sweater, a black tie showcasing the team’s crest and a duffel bag completed the look.

According to the designers, this was only a preview of the partnership, since the official tailored uniforms they realized for the “Blues” for the European games will be released starting from mid-November.

“We are honored to be dressing the Manchester City team,” Dean Caten said. “We have designed a unique suit for the players and the staff, modern fit and elegant fabrics.”

“Mr. Guardiola and his team represent and embody Dsquared2 style and tailoring on sports,” added his brother, who looks forward “to seeing them all suited up.”

Damian Willoughby, senior vice president of partnerships for Manchester City Football Group, highlighted the values shared by the brand and the club. “We both believe in the importance of attention to detail, providing the best experience and constantly challenging ourselves to be at the top of our game,” he said. “We are all looking forward to working with Dsquared2 over the coming seasons and we know the players are very excited to begin wearing their new match day uniforms.”

This is not the first foray into the sports world for Dsquared2. In 2006, the Canadian duo designed the official uniforms of Italy’s Juventus Football Club, while in 2009 they created the off-field attire for the FC Barcelona’s team. Incidentally, Guardiola was the Barcelona coach at the time. This year, the siblings realized Team Canada’s outfits for the opening ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro.
