Jason Wu Speaks at YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund’s Breakfast Series

The designer took questions from 16 fashion students that are in New York for summer internships.

EARLY-BIRD SPECIAL: On a typical day, Jason Wu gets up at around 7 a.m. or 7:30 a.m. to hit the gym. On Tuesday, however, he made a beeline for Lambs Club to participate in the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund’s “Breakfast with the Boss” series and take questions from fashion students. The 16 inquiring minds are in town for summer internships, and Wu, in conversational style, touched on his fashion start, his collaboration for Target, that dress for Michelle Obama, and how, beyond the glitz, fashion can be far from glamorous. “It’s not easy, it’s not magical like that,” he said. “It’s a lot of hard work and dedication.” Wu’s prescription for any work-related stress? “Stay on schedule, don’t wait until the last minute,” he said. “Sometimes you just need a good night of sleep.”
