Industry Raises Funds for Earthquake Reconstruction in Italy

Riccardo Grassi's “Love Shopping” initiative raised 97,000 euros, or $120,000 at current exchange rates, for the town of Mirandola.

EARTHQUAKE FUNDS: When earthquakes devastated a cluster of cities in northern Italy in May, Riccardo Grassi, owner of Riccardo Grassi Showroom in Milan, directed his creativity to a new cause: raising funds for reconstruction. Supported by the Croce Rosa-Celeste association, his “Love Shopping” initiative featured donated merchandise from more than 200 brands, such as Prada, Giambattista Valli and Les Hommes, sold to the public on June 15 and 16. On July 25, Grassi and Croce Rosa-Celeste president Fabio Dessy presented the mayor of Mirandola — a small city heavily damaged during the quakes — with a check for 97,000 euros, or $120,000 at current exchange rates. The funds will go toward rebuilding the town’s Eugenio Garin library.
