GREEN EILEEN HEADS TO SEATTLE: Eileen Fisher is expanding her recycling program to Seattle. A store and recycling program, Green Eileen, will open a 2,250-square-foot store at 4860 Rainier Avenue South in Seattle. For each gently used Eileen Fisher item of clothing that customers donate, they receive a $5 rewards card that can be used to purchase new Eileen Fisher merchandise at the stores or the Web site. Collection takes place at Green Eileen, as well as the brand’s three area stores, two in Seattle and one in Bellevue.
Green Eileen opened its first freestanding store in Yonkers, N.Y. in 2011. “I began to think about recycling after years of hearing customers say they were reluctant to give our clothes away,” said founder Eileen Fisher. “They’d tell me that the garments were in really good shape, but they felt sad parting with them. With Green Eileen, customers can now donate their clothing to support a good cause.”
In addition to selling accessibly-priced clothing at the store, the shop will offer creative workshops on upcycling and repurposing items that would otherwise head to a landfill.
